Ella & Gavin McIntyre

Meet our Directors, Gavin & Ella McIntyre who tell us a little bit about their passion for hairdressing and their joint ambition to grow G&E McIntyres into a wonderful salon that not only creates fabulous hair, but also nurtures and creates wonderful stylists and gives back to the industry and community.

It’s fair to say that hairdressing is in their blood as both grew up with mums who are hairdressers.  In fact, Ella started hairdressing when she was 14, working in Northampton and then Milton Keynes where she became a salon manager for 8 years before opening her own salon.

Gavin’s career began aged 21 and has seen him take on the role of Creative Director and now salon owner.  Over the years he has built a regional and industry profile for excellent creative stage work and education.

Read on to find out a little more about Gavin & Ella McIntyre…

What do you love about hairdressing?

Ella:  The thing I love most about hairdressing is having the ability to transform someone’s day and it’s such a feel-good job – no day is ever the same and you never stop learning. Even 16 years on I am still learning and I love it!

Gavin:  I love inspiring the team and my guests. Learning every day keeps me motivated and it’s been thrilling to discover what’s needed to make our business work effectively, especially learning about marketing.

Who inspires you to create fabulous hair?

Gavin: Working with our ambitious team inspires me every day, watching them create amazing hair spurs me even more. I love nothing more than watching our stylists work their magic on their guests.

What would you be if you weren’t a hairdresser?

Ella:  I would do something to do with travel like be an air hostess or working on a cruise or abroad – anything that would enable me to see the world!

Gavin:  I’ve tried other careers pre-hairdressing and I can’t imagine being anything other than a hairdresser!

What is your ultimate ambition?

Ella:  Right now we’re living our ultimate ambition which was always to open our own salon and we feel so proud to have achieved it together.  If anything, now it would just be to grow this salon as much as possible and reach impossible heights we never thought we could reach. Pushing down barriers as they present themselves and keep growing our award-winning brand.

Gavin:  My dream is to build as big a brand as possible so we can continue contributing to our industry, nurturing and creating careers.  We are here to take care of our community – charitable as well as hair demands – and one day I hope we can look back on all the positives that we can leave behind.

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Gavin: Determined, passionate, caring.

Tell us something about you that would surprise others…

Ella: I am obsessed with anything to do with under the sea and snorkelling – it’s the most I have ever felt at peace! My dream is to scuba dive in the Great Barrier Reef!

Gavin:  I am a huge brainwashed Manchester United supporter. Going to Old Trafford is my downtime – anything football related and I’m obsessed.
